"After following your tips, I e-mailed my resume out to 3 companies. Within an hour I had an e-mail back from the company I was most interesting in working for – they wanted me to meet with them for an interview the next day!! Your website gave my new career the perfect start!"

"One common theme in my job search was feedback on my resume and I wanted to thank you again. I was at a company in San Francisco this week, and the final interviewer pulled out my resume and told me she thought the resume was "the best put together resume she had ever read" and was going to save the document to model her own after. "

Kyle,
Software Developer
"The help you give job seekers in getting a clear perspective on their unique value and communicating that effectively in a resume is invaluable. "

I was afraid it would take a few months but I had no trouble landing the interviews for the design jobs I wanted. It always feels great when my interview starts with 'when we went through our resumes you were definitely one we had to meet.' So again, thanks!"

Uma,

"Been getting a great response from colleagues on the newly re-vamped resume -- thanks again! "
Mike,

resume writing course - part 5

REVISE FOR EVERY APPLICATION

The simple changes that will ensure your resume gets a great response every time.

The next key element of success is usually overlooked - even by many professional resume writers.

I believe your resume is never good enough.

No matter how well-written it is, no matter how carefully you have outlined your value proposition, no matter how action-packed it is, it is never perfectly positioned for every job opportunity because each employer is different.

So, the resume you have created using my system should only be used when doing a mass mailing to recruiters or employers.

When applying for a specific position, you should go back to the principle I taught you in the first lesson: Put yourself in their shoes.

Do whatever you have to do to find out what issues the company is facing (or what opportunities they are trying to capitalize on).

Understand the company culture. What kind of place is this to work? What do they value?

Find out as much as you can about the position. And if all you have is the job posting, study it carefully to identify the needs and concerns.

The more you can address your resume to the specifics of the position, the higher your response rate will be.

This takes us back to the analogy I started out with - that of marketing a product. You must approach selling yourself in a resume in the same way a marketer approaches selling a product in a brochure.

It may feel a little uncomfortable at first to blow your own horn quite so blatantly, but trust me ... no one else is going to do it for you. And once you do it, you'll see results and hopefully be encouraged to keep going.

That's the beauty of this resume writing system - making these changes gets instant results. That in turn boosts your confidence, which in turn has an even more positive effect.

I can't give all my secrets away for free - that wouldn't be fair to the people who bought my book! - so I haven't even touched on the design changes that can further enhance your results (or the design mistakes that can cost you interviews) but I hope I've covered enough to get you thinking about your resume.

If you're serious about making your resume the best it can be, check out my book. I have packed all my inside secrets into the book along with tons of real-life resume examples from people in all walks of life and at all levels of the corporate ladder.

The download is instantaneous, so you can be learning all my secrets just a few minutes from now and because the recession is hurting so many people, we've discounted the book by $7.

Tomorrow, I'll give you a resume checklist you can use to evaluate your current resume.

Best,
